School may be out for the summer, but at the June 14 meeting of the Montavilla Neighborhood Association, the discussions and debates were focused squarely on education. After carefully considering three requests, the association voted to award proceeds from Thatcher's upcoming brew fest to Madison High School's after-hours library program. The festival, which will take place on Aug. 21, at Thatchers (SE 79th and Stark), raised $1,700 last year; organizers hope to exceed that amount this year. The 4th Annual 82nd Avenue of Roses Parade will take place this Saturday, April 24th at 9:00am. The route for this family event begins at 4000 SE 82nd Avenue at Eastport Plaza, travels north on 82nd to Yamhill, SE 78th and ends in the Montavilla business district. All organizations, businesses, families, bands, car clubs and more are invited to take part. This is the first official Rose Festival event in Portland, see you there!
