Opportunities in the Montavilla Community to Assist Families in Need

Thatchers has spearheaded an effort to sponsor a community program in connection with Impact NW this Holiday Season. Montavilla Neighborhood Association and Montavilla East Tabor Business Association are going to coordinate efforts to make this happen.

Here is a description of the Impact NW program we are sponsoring:

“Broadway Vantage is an apartment complex located at NE 83rd and Broadway (one block north of Halsey).  The attendants use Section 8 and other forms of subsidized income to pay for their units.

15 of these units are rented by clients of Impact NW.  They are in the Bridges to Housing (B2H) program.  This is a highly successful program which places homeless families into apartment complexes.

There is an onsite case manager who guides them to live successfully.  This includes getting them IDs, getting their Section 8 secured, getting them a cell phone, providing access to counseling, teaching them how to positively engage with their children, access to drug and alcohol counseling, making sure their children attend school, assuring they are safe and have food, assist with job readiness, placement, education, etc…It truly is an amazing program.

The majority of our B2H clients are single mothers, many of which come from extreme domestic violence scenarios.  This means they literally have nothing besides what they are wearing and their children.  They are incredibly brave and scared at the same time.

One reason it would be great for you to “adopt” all 15 families is that they really rely on each other.  They become extended family members and, honestly, would most likely share the gifts you gave to one family with each other.  They are so generous towards each other, even though they have so little.”
